No, this is not a joke or a toy, this is the real deal. Now all you Apple iPhone lovers out there can throw your set together in the mix using this funky little app from iTM DJ.
The app is a digital DJ controller and will run with programmes such as Traktor, Serato or indeed and midi enabled application.
You get a 2 track mixer with faders, gain knob, headphone level, 4 eqs, 4 fx, loop and sync buttons, track control buttons plus a load panel for track selection.
Simply run the software (Mac and PC versions available) on your laptop, turn on Wifi in the app and also on the iPhone, create a wireless network between the two… and that’s it. The iTouchMIDI app will now appear as a MIDI interface in your DJ programme where it will receive MIDI messages wirelessly from the iPhone.
I’ve stumbled across this funky little tool for online music production. Its made by the people at Hobnox and is a completely free online music production experience.
You can find this tool at http://www.hobnox.com/index.1056.de.html and its essentially an online sequencer rack allowing you to experiment with different sounds.
For when your music has to sound so precise that nothing else will do, you won’t go wrong picking up this serious piece of kit.
Its made by Steinway & Sons and is called the Model C. Instead of housing the speakers inside of a box, they are left exposed so as to recreate the authentic sound of live instruments. The sound is produced direct from the digital source to the driver without the need to convert from digital to analog in the amp, which also adds to the purity of the sound. It is said that the sound is so pure, experts can specify a violin’s make and country of origin just from the audio that is played.
However, costing a whopping $148,000, its unlikely you will find this system poking out the top of your stocking this Christmas.
Designed for DJs by DJs and drawing inspiration from the industry standard CDJ-1000 series, the CDJ-400 is a flexible, affordable performance player for the aspiring club DJ to use at home.
The CDJ-400 allows you to play your MP3 collection off CD-R/RW discs as well as music from mass storage USB devices, such as USB keys, external hard drives and portable media devices.
The deck also features the world’s first Scratch Jog Effects, with three creative scratch effects and an amazing new Loop Divide function.
Virtually all of the button and slider functions can send MIDI data via USB output, making it possible for the decks to control external DJ software such as the DJS, an MP3 mixing software that emulates a full Pioneer DJ setup on your PC. It includes 8 innovative effects, a waveform display with cue / looping ability and can convert CD / line input signals to MP3 within an easy to manage music library.
Other third party applications will also be supported such as Serato Scratch LIVE on a PC or MAC.
Don’t Lose The Music highlights the risks to hearing from loud music in clubs, at gigs and from using personal audio equipment.
The campaign is aimed at 16-30 year olds and is paid for and run by RNID, the largest charity working to change the world for the UK’s 9 million deaf and hard of hearing people.
The campaign aims to stop young people from damaging their hearing through over exposure to loud music. We want to increase the number of people who are aware of the dangers and also increase the number of people taking action to prevent hearing damage.
Social noise levels in the UK have tripled since the early 1980s. This means we are exposed to more noise in our daily lives than generations before us.
Regular exposure to loud noise can lead to premature hearing loss. It can also cause ringing in the ears which can become permanent, a condition called tinnitus. Once hearing damage occurs there is no cure, yet noise induced hearing damage is preventable.
RNID research found that huge numbers of young people are experiencing warning signs of potential hearing damage (ringing and dull hearing) yet they don’t know what they should do to protect their hearing.
The Medical Research Council estimates four million UK adolescents are at risk of hearing damage from amplified music.
People, please please please look after your hearing. Seriously - can you imagine clubbing or DJing without your ears?
I love new gadgets, techy things, widgets and gizmos. I love it even more when they look like this! What you see before you is the new Pioneer DVJ-X1 mixer due for release in february 2008.
It’s a DJ mixer that mixes audio and visial with a wide range of built-in special effects. The Pioneer DVJ-X1 mixer will allow DJs to mix, blend and scratch DVDs as well as traditional CDs.
At £3700, it’s a little outside even my pricerange but I am sure they will start making an appearance in some of London’s more established clubs in the early part of next year.
While surfing the internet looking for cool stuff, I sumbled across this superb little gem that absolutely blew me away!
PaceMaker is like an iPod on steroids… and then some! Its a portable 120Gb music station that allows you to DJ between tracks on the move. Think of it like a micro-mobile DJ station.
The mixing features and capabilities on this thing are awesome when you consider its size and portability. With a DJ operating battery life of 5 hours (or 18 hours music playback only), the ability to take almost any format of music thrown at it, this is one serious piece of kit.
Holy Crap!! I have just found what I want for Christmas. It is the ULTIMATE in DJ/VJ equipment and it’s called a Baby Grand Master.
Imagine 2 Pioneer DVJ-X1 DVD Players, an Edirol V-4 Video Mixer, 3 Marshal LCD Monitors, an Allen and Heath Xone 92 Audio Mixer, 2 15″ Subwoofers, an 18″ Subwoofer, a 12″ Subwoofer, 3 Bullet Tweeters plus an AB 1100 Watt Power Amplifier all stuffed into one phat piano. That’s what the Baby Grand Master is. Check it out for yourself:
