Dirtysmart call themselves “The Electo House Clothing Label” are a new brand of clothing for DJs and clubbers.
Endorsed by house music heavyweights, Utah Saints, Funkagenda, Bodyrox and The Hoxton Whores, to name but a few, ‘Dirty Smart’ is said to be the most sought after clothing label among the clubbing elite.
Dirty Smart’s clothing is all influenced by ‘Electro House’ music and the designs all have quirky twists. Even the labelling is intricately designed. The Dirty Smart clothing range is exclusively sold online and there are only 2,500 units of each design created.

Exchange Beureau Music sent me some promos this morning and I thought it would be good to share with you their funky soulful sound.
Joshua Adams and Paul Katcher are both members of the Detroit-based soul/funk/house band Exchange Bureau and, as the story goes, “We were just politickin’ one night and decided to just go ahead and create a digital, independent record label.” But, as always, it’s easier said than done. “Paul and I really wanted to work hard to make this label, and we’ve done everything from building the Web site to handling all the business side to remixing artists … just everything,” notes Adams, who’s been making music in various forms for the past 20 years. Considering where he’s been and what he’s done with music, the fact that he’s co-founded a label comes as no surprise.
At last year’s Winter Music Conference in Miami, Adams and Katcher talked with a lot of labels, especially digital labels, and noticed most digital labels were run the same way: a fifty/fifty split with their artists. “After that, we started thinking of just doing this in-house instead of going through people who we don’t know whether or not will really push our material,” Adams said. “I started calling a lot of people I knew and started compiling a roster of people in the area that represent all areas across the ‘dance music’ spectrum: funk, hip-hop, house, techno, electro and more.” Not surprisingly, most of these artists were friends that Adams knew, which was a definite advantage, but working with friends in business can always prove … awkward. “There’s always that weird factor when you’re dealing with your friends in business, especially when you email them a contract for them to sign in blood,” laughed Adams. “Luckily, the people we’re working with, I really trust and believe they trust us. We just want everybody to do well.”

I’m always on the lookout for fresh new music as well as reminiscing about oldskool stuff too. Most of the time I have either Hed Kandi radio playing during the day, or a bit of Radio 1 if I fancy it but I have come across something much better.
http://last.fm is an intelligent online radio station. Once you have registered, you can enter artists that you like and Last.fm will play you tracks from those artists as well as from producers in a simmilar genre and style. This is very much in the same way that Pandora used to work but Last.fm have the whole social networking thing attached too making it easy for you to share your favourite tracks and create playlists from the music that you like.
One downside is that not all of the music is avaiable at the same volume, so you will find yourself reaching for that dial quite a few times. But the major plus side is that Last.fm will learn the music that you like and over time it will start to suggest better and better tracks for you to listen to. You get to discover new music in the genre that you like that you might not have heard of before!
I’m quite new to the Last.fm thing and I probably havent checked out all of the features, but on the face of it its pretty damn good. Go and take a listen now. Its free and you might just discover a few jems of audio delight that you never knew existed!

I am a big big fan of the legend that is Calvin Harris. Calvin began making music at 15 and was signed to EMI and Sony BMG after his music was first discovered on MySpace. I genuinely don’t think that you can categorise his style of music, but I would describe it as electro pop funk.
Calvin Harris doesn’t tour many dates around the UK and any live gigs he has done lately have been for large festivals that have sold out and so I’ve always missed the opportunity to see him perform live.
However, I have managed to get hold of some tickets for Calvin Harris’ forthcoming gig in Bristol on the 25th April. I live just outside of London and I could have gone to see him live at Scala on 5th May but the main reason I am making the mini road-trip north is because he is going to be playing at TheKLA - on a sod-off huge boat!
I’ve never been to a gig on TheKLA before but it looks very impresive. I’m going to see Calvin Harris live on a boat party!!! Just had to share it. I’m so excited!
You can share the love too. Here are the rest of his tour dates:

I’ve stumbled across this funky little tool for online music production. Its made by the people at Hobnox and is a completely free online music production experience.
You can find this tool at http://www.hobnox.com/index.1056.de.html and its essentially an online sequencer rack allowing you to experiment with different sounds.
There are hundreds of buttons and knobs to twiddle with and if you create anything half decent, you can record it and save it to listen to again. Detailed information can be found here http://www.hobnox.com/index.1021.de.html?blg[project_handle]=Reef2&blg[id]=2349&blg[proc]=show.
There are Electro and Drum ‘n’ Bass presets available or you can start with a blank canvass. I can see myself spending a good few hours with this…

While mooching about the internet, I came across this funky little web site over at www.mp3whitelabel.com. It’s a place for unsigned artists to upload their dance music tracks in order to get more ears listening to thier music and to hopefully snap up a record deal in the process.
There are a great deal of genres being showcased such as: Acid House, Breaks, Chillout, D ‘n’ B, Dubstep, Electro, House, Experimental, Hard Dance, Hard Trance, Hardcore, Hardstyle, Hip-Hop, House, Leftfield, Minimal, Progressive, R’n'B, Tech-House, Techno and Trance. A little something for everyone there.
Free to use and free to download, not only is this a great resource for fresh new music for DJs, it is also a launch pad for aspiring producers too. If you are an up and coming producer and you could do with a platform for your music other than the chaotic mish-mash jungle of MySpace, you should really do yourself a favour and check out www.mp3whitelabel.com
Mixes and audio available from this site are intended for home review only. If you like the music, please support the artists and purchase the music legally from the links provided.
