Platform Six, Plus See Me Live!

Here are a couple of dates for your diaries over the next few days as its a bit of an action packed bank holiday weekend.

Shakedown @ Haha GuildfordFirst of all, get yourself over to Platform Six where you can download the latest episode of my fortnightly radio show. Special guest mix this week from none other than Electro house DJ Piqué !!!! As always, the special guest mix is sandwiched between two very phat choice slices of hand cut funky house mixed by myself. Its a great show that also includes one of the latest tracks from Shola Ama and a bumpin’ cut from Crimes Against Disco!

Now on to the live events… Kicking off with TONIGHT. Yes yes, tonight you can catch myself on the decks up at the always funky, Funky End bar in Aldershot alongside the hairless wonder that is Tom Upton closely followed by the lanky legend Mark Masters. Free entry all night with music pumping out from 9pm until late.

If you haven’t got your fill of fresh upfront Funky House tunes by then, you can continue the party TOMORROW NIGHT over at the HaHa bar in Guildford. Usual suspects of Tom Upton and Mark Masters will be in control of your dancefloor, plus I will be there too to spin a couple of tunes. Once again, it’s free entry all night so to be fair you have no excuses not to turn up. Saturday will be a good one as I plan to have a couple of beers and dance around like a lemon.

Hope to see you there! Keep it funky.

New Month, New Funky House Mix

The clocks went forwards the other night. That’s a bad thing because it means we lose an hour from our weekend. Rubbish! But the good news is that this means it is now officially the start of British Summertime.

And what better way to celebrate than to send you this latest offering of fresh club cuts which is guaranteed to make the sun shine. I love the sun.

Kicking off is a track I’ve had for a while and have been meaning to add to my mix for ages. It was sent to me from someone who got in touch via MySpace and is a really nice start to this month’s set.

Funky saxaphone business soon follows thanks to Jolyon Petch vs General Lee and a sweet transition into a track from Soulshaker that was released last year, but I’m adding it to this months mix because its so damn good.

It just gets better and better from here on in, tracks from Armand van Helden and also my new favourite producer Audio Jacker. Until The Break Of Dawn has traces of classic oldskool Garage throughout and I am a bit of a sucker for the classics so I thought I’d throw it in. Hope you like.

I finish up the mix with another belter from DJ Deekline. Lately he’s been producing some really good funky breakbeat crossover tracks that fit well into the style that I like.

Download this month’s funky house mix.

Hope you enjoy the mix. As usual, keep the comments coming in either via Facebook, or through the contact page as it is you people that I make these mixes for.

Also, don’t forget to check out my new bi-monthly radio show called Platform Six now airing on both SSRadio and Lifted Radio.

Now Arriving, Platform Six

For those that don’t know, Platform Six is my new radio show that is being broadcast to the world via the magical delights of the internet.

Platform SixEvery fortnight you get to hear some classic and upfront funky house tuneage mixed by self. Plus you also get to hear me jabber on about pointless crap too.

Each show is two hours long and has a featured guest mix tucked within it’s depths. I try to cover a wide spectrum of funky house sub-genres but essentially it’s all just a load of tracks that I like all strung together with a bit of filler in the middle. I like it and I hope you do too.

Now that you know what it’s all about, why not check it out? It is free after all. You can find my bi-monthly Platform Six show on SSradio here (login required):http://ssradiouk.com/shows/platform-six/ or on Lifted Radio here: http://lifted-radio.co.uk/podcasts/?cat=69

Exchange Beureau Music

Exchange Beureau Music sent me some promos this morning and I thought it would be good to share with you their funky soulful sound.

Exchange Beureau MusicJoshua Adams and Paul Katcher are both members of the Detroit-based soul/funk/house band Exchange Bureau and, as the story goes, “We were just politickin’ one night and decided to just go ahead and create a digital, independent record label.” But, as always, it’s easier said than done. “Paul and I really wanted to work hard to make this label, and we’ve done everything from building the Web site to handling all the business side to remixing artists … just everything,” notes Adams, who’s been making music in various forms for the past 20 years. Considering where he’s been and what he’s done with music, the fact that he’s co-founded a label comes as no surprise.

At last year’s Winter Music Conference in Miami, Adams and Katcher talked with a lot of labels, especially digital labels, and noticed most digital labels were run the same way: a fifty/fifty split with their artists. “After that, we started thinking of just doing this in-house instead of going through people who we don’t know whether or not will really push our material,” Adams said. “I started calling a lot of people I knew and started compiling a roster of people in the area that represent all areas across the ‘dance music’ spectrum: funk, hip-hop, house, techno, electro and more.” Not surprisingly, most of these artists were friends that Adams knew, which was a definite advantage, but working with friends in business can always prove … awkward. “There’s always that weird factor when you’re dealing with your friends in business, especially when you email them a contract for them to sign in blood,” laughed Adams. “Luckily, the people we’re working with, I really trust and believe they trust us. We just want everybody to do well.”

Moving House

Regular subscribers to my monthly podcast in iTunes will know that every now and again I throw in a little bit of an interview episode where I track down the movers and shakers in the House music industry and give them a good grilling. I call this series of podcasts “Paul Velocity Presents…”.

Paul Velocity Presents...However, I have now decided to separate the mixes and the interviews into their own individual podcasts on iTunes so that one does not interfere with the other.

So, as always, if you want to catch the best in upfront, uplifting funky house music, simply point your web browser to www.paulvelocity.co.uk/itunes.

But if you want to catch up with what’s happening in the world of House with DJ interviews and exclusive guest mixes, then pay a visit to www.paulvelocity.co.uk/pvp.
